Talking to OPS-SAT from 37c3

Just after Christmas I had the pleasure to attend the Chaos Communication Congress (37c3, codename: Unlocked) in Hamburg! After a 4 year break, the Congress comes back as the biggest cybersecurity event in Europe.

There I've met friends from Libre Space Foundation and c3space. Taking the "Communication" part seriously, we attempted communication with the OPS-SAT satellite as it was flying over Hamburg! Just now I managed to schedule the recording to downlink, and I can confirm that our attempt was successful.

It was a great experience - both technically and organisationally. To make it work we had to figure out the right set up on ground as well as coordinate with the OPS-SAT Mission Control Team to schedule the recording on board at the right time. We've also managed to attract a sizeable group of people interested in our effort.

The Libre Space Foundation has previously contributed to the SDR subsystem of the OPS-SAT mission, which made the event possible. I invite you to get familiar with the works of Libre Space Foundation, especially their Manifesto, with which I wholeheartedly agree.
