At the end of my internship at ESOC, I gave a lecture about OPS-SAT to the students of Engineering and Management of Space Systems at Hochschule Bremen - the same programme that I attended one year before.
OPS-SAT Space Lab is an ESA service to help accelerate innovation in operations. It gives European industry and institutions access to a reconfigurable satellite for in-flight experiments, with a fast, free and non-bureaucratic process.
In the lecture, I talked about:
- the satellite: the SEPP computer with an FPGA, the Software Defined Radio, the HD camera and the attitude control, and the FlatSat copy on the ground,
- the orbit, its fast decay, and the operations that reduced the drag and made the mission longer,
- the mission control software, and some of the experiments: a game of chess, the recording at 37c3 over Hamburg, and - probably for the first time on a satellite - Doom.
